27 Jun, 2025Ashok Gehlot's statement on emergency period and jail incidents: "We accepted it publicly and the chapter is closed" Ashok Gehlot has responded to the comments of BJP leader Bhajan Lal and other political opponents regarding the events of the Emergency period. He said that during the Emergency, Congress leaders publicly accepted their mistakes and closed that chapter. Gehlot said, "Look, the only difference is that when the emergency was imposed, many people went to jail. When Indira Gandhi returned, Congress leaders publicly said that there were many flaws in it, some mistakes were made. We are sorry for that. That chapter is closed. What more could you want?" He further said that "I have also been to jail, Bhajanlal ji does not know. The only difference is that he went to jail during the emergency, whereas we went to jail when you people expelled Indira Gandhi from the parliament and sent her to jail even after she won the election. Lakhs of people went to jail in her support." Gehlot also mentioned Bhajan Lal's lack of knowledge and said, "Bhajan Lal ji is still young, he has become the Chief Minister for the first time, so he doesn't have much information. He should not mind it."
